Dragon*Con 2013 Charity Auction
Director: Everette Beach (Contact: charityevents@dragoncon.org)
The proceeds from this years charity auction and other charity events at Dragon*Con will benefit three charities. For the first time, Dragon*Con asked its fans to help select three official charities in a poll promoted on Facebook and other social media channels. Between April 15th and April 28th, more than 39,000 votes were cast for one of five pre-selected organizations, with the top three vote-getters named as official charities.
With 66 percent of the vote, Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary, which shelters injured, abused, or unwanted exotic animals, was the overwhelming favorite of voters. The organization will receive 50 percent of the money raised throughout the four-day convention, including a matching contribution from Dragon*Con of up to $50,000.
Georgia Conservancy, with a 35 year history of helping to preserve and protect the state's natural resources, came in second in the poll, and will receive 30 percent of the funds raised.
Marcus Autism Center, an organization dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of children with autism and related disorders, placed third place. They will receive 20 percent.

The two charities placing in 4th and 5th place, Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Centers and The Salvation Army, will each receive $10,000 from Dragon*Con. In addition to these payouts, Dragon*Con has contributed $245,000 of its profits to The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta and other organizations.
Help us to continue the Dragon*Con tradition of charity work and thank you in advance for your support!
We welcome all submissions for the 2013 Charity Auction, benefitting Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary, Georgia Conservancy, and Marcus Autism Center.
Without donations from people just like you, we would not have been able to raise $45,000 last year for the Georgia Chapter of the ALS Association.
If you’d like to help, we would love to have you donate an item for us to sell at the charity auction. Items sold at past charity auctions have included: books, comic books, artwork, signed photos, movie props, prop replicas, toys, games, costumes, DVD players, computers, TVs, store and restaurant gift cards, weekend getaways at hotels, site visits to the “live” set of a TV series, a meal with an actor or writer, a writing review by an editor, inclusion (Tuckerization) in an upcoming book, and much more. If you have an idea for something you’d like to donate and would like to discuss it, contact us at charityevents@dragoncon.org.
If you would like to send an item (or items) for this year’s event, please send them to:

Please include your contact information (name and email or street address) for donation tracking purposes. Our computer system this year that allows us to track all donations so we can send out receipts to everyone that made a donation (if you wish to donate anonymously, please let us know).
If you are unable to send your donation to us before the convention, we will have a Charity Events Booth open from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM Friday and Saturday. The booth is in the Marriot Hotel, 1 floor below the hotel registration desk. At the booth, we will be displaying items that have been donated, as well as accepting additional donated items. If you need help with your donation, come by the booth and we will have a staff member go with you to pick up the item.
As always, we thank you for your generosity.
This year’s charity artwork project was a huge success. To help raise money for Dragon*Con 2012’s charity, the Georgia Chapter of the ALS foundation, we proudly hosted the “Fantasy Baseball” Charity Project. The “base” item used was a 12” (circumference) softball, and each was auctioned off at the Art Show Voice Auction on Monday. With 26 baseballs completed by our artists, we were able to raise $2520 for the charity with this project alone. Add that to the additional monies collected and the Dragon*Con Art Show donated $3380 to this year’s charity.
Please stay tuned for details on the 2013 Charity Artwork Project.
