Pamela Diane Nance

Pamela Nance is a cultural anthropologist and archaeologist by degree who currently works in the field of social sciences at a university medical school. Pamela studied at Salem College in historic Old Salem, NC. This historic setting offered her the opportunity to conduct archaeological research in an early Moravian settlement. Graduate studies at Wake Forest University offered additional opportunities to conduct fieldwork in the Yadkin River Basin of North Carolina.

Long before her archaeological and anthropological interests, Pamela had a deep love of the past. Raised in a rural setting of North Carolina, Pamela learned at a young age the importance of ancestry. As the great-great-grand daughter of an American Indian of the NC Cherokee Tribe, she was raised in a family that was very in-tune with ‘spirit’. Pamela’s mother was an intuitive, her grand-mother a mid-wife and herbalist, and two great-aunts; as well as her great-great-grandmother were healers who were well known for their ability to ‘talk out fire’ from burns. These women were very important to their community and were regularly sought out for their natural healing abilities.

As a young child of 10 and 11, Pamela had two very memorable paranormal experiences. As a teenager, while undergoing surgery, she had her first out-of-body experience. While in her late 20s, she had a profound, life-changing near-death experience. In addition, the house she has lived in for the past 31 years has one resident ghost and experiential evidence concludes that other spirits have come and gone over the years.

During the 1980s, Pamela had the opportunity to study Shamanism under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Hammond, a colleague of Dr. Michael Harner: founder and director of The Foundation for Shamanic Studies. This area of study opened an additional realm of spirit that influenced her interest in healing and eventual pursuit of her Healing Touch (HT) Level III certification. In addition to HT, Pamela is an advanced Hypnotherapist and Past Life Regressionist in-training, and plans to become certified in Life Between Lives (LBL) hypnotherapy from The Newton Institute. While on-site, Pamela utilizes HT energy work in conjunction with the cleansing and protection expertise performed by the team's occultist Ashley Field. Following the investigation, Pamela will work with the client (s) to rebalance their personal energy through HT energy work and chakra clearing & balancing.

In 2008, Pamela along with her business partner Ashley Field formed the paranormal research team: Spirit Hunters of the South (SHOTS). Since its formation, SHOTS has investigated dozens of private and public locations in MD, KY, NC, SC and GA. Given Pamela’s background, it was only natural to approach paranormal investigating within an archaeological, cultural and historical framework. Over time, this approach has become the mainstay of SHOTS’ investigative technique. Thus, prior to all investigations, thorough historical research is conducted. The results are then used in the field as a narrative and platform for the investigation. The results have been very compelling!

Spirit Hunters of the South has appeared in A Haunting on the Discovery Channel, My Ghost Story on A&E/BIO Channel, tentative follow-up guest spots on both TV shows mentioned above, and an upcoming guest spot on Darkness Radio with Dave Schrader.
