Campaign RPGs
Director: Brooks Banks
Campaign RPGs encompasses gaming industry campaign offerings by various game product companies in the tabletop RPG business. These include, or have included in the past: Wizards of the Coast, Paizo, Paradigm Concepts, Catalyst Games, and AEG. These campaigns are national, and even international, campaigns where characters you create and play can be taken to other conventions and events around the country and around the world where the same campaign offerings are available. Each game company that has its own campaign offering has a staff (sometimes paid, sometimes volunteer) dedicated to providing quality adventures, knowledgeable judges, and a website with information about their campaign offering, as well as any specific house rules and character creation guidelines.
For 2012, we had an explosion of interest in our Pathfinder Society campaign offering from Paizo, and even had the area Venture-Captains in attendance to manage the successful running of the events. Pathfinder is Paizo's D&D-based offering which runs under a slightly modified 3.5ed rule set. For all Pathfinder Society events, participation required membership in Paizo's Pathfinder Society and a character created using the Character Creation Guidelines available from http://paizo.com/pathfinderSociety. Anyone wishing to just drop by and try out an event or two was most definitely encouraged, and we even had pre-generated PCs available so that anyone could just sit down and start playing.
Also offered was the Living Forgotten Realms campaign setting from Wizards of the Coast. This game system is based on the current D&D 4.0 rule set. WotC has loosened the restriction on playing LFR events, no longer requiring people to be DCI/RPGA members in order to play. For all Living Forgotten Realms events, participation required a character created using the Character Creation Guidelines available at http://www.livingforgottenrealms.com. Also, for those wishing simply to sit down and play, pre-generated PCs were available upon request.
Our final offering from the 2012 show was Legends of Arcanis, a new campaign setting offered by Paradigm Concepts. This campaign setting is based on an entirely new rule set created by PCI, following on to their original D&D 3.5 OGL offering Arcanis. PCI decided to depart from using the D&D 3.5 OGL, and created their own rule system, upon which the new Legends of Arcanis campaign is based. This was the second year under the new rule set, and the new rules have been very well received, both being simple to learn and fun to execute. Participation in Legends of Arcanis events required a character created using the Character Creation Guidelines available from http://www.paradigmconcepts.com. Again, for those wishing simply to sit down and play, pre-generated PCs were available.
For 2013, we expect each of the above offerings once again, and will also be adding an offering from Catalyst Games called Shadowrun Missions. Previously, this offering was under the nonCampaign RPGs umbrella, but will be moving under the Campaign RPGs umbrella for the 2013 show. Shadowrun Missions is a campaign based on the immensely popular Shadowrun campaign world, specifically the Shadowrun v4.0 Anniversary Edition rule set. For more information about the campaign, or to find rules for creating characters, please visit http://shadowrun4.com/missions/.
