Annual Dragon*Con Parade

Director: Jan Price

Ready! Set! GO!!!! (Saturday, Aug 31, 2013)

Registration for the 2013 Dragon*Con Parade (the largest and definitely coolest parade in Atlanta) is open! Participation in the parade is open to all 2013 Dragon*Con members. You do not need your membership at the time you sign up; however badges are required on parade morning.

The response for registration for the 2012 parade was so amazing that all available space in the parade was taken prior to the opening of the convention. Please keep this in mind when planning your 2013 Dragon*Con parade experience.

For more information on how to be in the parade click here.

To register:

1.Join our Yahoo Group and use the “self-service” database  you’ll find there.  The group is also the best place for direct connections with other participants and the latest news and information on the parade. Or,

2. Use the webmail form in the Contact Us (HOT LINK THIS TO THE CONTACT US PAGE PLEASE) section of this website.  Look for “Parade” in the pull down address menu and send us information on the type of costume you’re planning, how many people you are registering for the parade and whether you plan to enter a vehicle in the parade.

We reserve the right to deny, prohibit or remove inappropriate or unrelated entries in the parade, including but not limited to costumes, vehicles, props, and banners/signage.

Please remember that the parade is NOT a venue for advertising or promotion of commercial enterprises or organizations without a signed sponsorship agreement with Dragon*Con. If you are interested in this type of promotion, please contact us and we’ll direct you to the right people.

Guidelines for participation and our FAQ can be found in our Yahoo Group.

The Parade Route:

The parade route begins at Woodruff Park at the corner of Auburn Ave and Peachtree Street, continues North on Peachtree Street to Baker Street, and takes a final turn onto Courtland Street to conclude at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis back entrance. It’s about one-half mile long on mostly level city streets.

For those of you who want to come check out the amazing creativity and costumes of our parade, please keep in mind the below tips on where NOT to see the parade.

Every year the crowd gets larger and we LOVE having each and every one of you there! However as the crowd grows along with the parade, we face challenges along the parade route that we need your help in minimizing.

Please do not stake out a place to watch the parade in Woodruff Park (Peachtree Street & Auburn Avenue). You really don't get the full impact of how wonderful the parade is if you're standing in our staging area rather than somewhere on Peachtree or Baker further along the route where the parade hits its stride and participants find their rhythm and groove.
You will be asked to leave the area and perhaps lose out on a prime viewing spot on the actual parade route.

Likewise, please do not stake out your spectator space in the back driveway area of the Marriott. That's honestly the very worst possible place for your true parade viewing pleasure. Our participants need all of that area to get off the street as quickly as possible so the parade can progress and come to an end before normal traffic starts to flow again.

Along the route the crowds have begun to spill off the sidewalks and into the street while the parade is in progress. Some of our participants have very limited vision in their costumes and we have some fairly large vehicles in the parade, you might not be seen before getting run into.
Watch out for you and yours safety, as well as those in the parade, and please keep the street clear! Stay on the sidewalks along the route until the parade has completely cleared your area.

Our Disability Services has a reserved viewing area in front of the Hyatt Regency for D*C members who otherwise would have limited viewing options/capability. Please do not stand in front of or block that area.

Be kind, be courteous, be safe, BE THERE! Have fun and cheer on the parade!

Questions and suggestions are always welcomed! We can't wait to see you at the parade!
