Silk Road: Asian Cinema & Culture

Director: Kira Lang

The Silk Road Track is a journey through culture, time and the imagination!  You don't need to join a caravan or book passage on a ship, a Dragon*Con membership is your passport to the Silk Road.

Our programming represents countries from the Mediterranean to Japan and we are dedicated to bringing as much diversity as we can to represent this part of the world.  We strive to include historical and modern aspects of the cultures from the East, both actual and imaginative.

Members of Dragon*Con who visit the Silk Road programming will find an eclectic offering of entertainment, educational & participatory panels and events each year.  Past and upcoming panels include:

  • Cinema and indie film screening from and about the Silk Road
  • Dance classes, such as Bollywood, Belly Dance, Tang Dynasty and Persian Court dance
  • Hands-on craft classes such as origami (paper folding), kumihimo (Japanese braiding) and maedeup (Korean knot work)
  • Martial arts demonstrations and discussions
  • Panels about the movies and television shows from the East
  • Wearing and/or making sari, kimono, bedlah and Lolita fashion
  • Discuss literature from “The Art of War” to “The Future is Japanese”
  • The always entertaining Godzilla movie screening/raffle/trivia panel
  • Origami contest
  • Drum rhythm and drum circle etiquette
  • See and/or perform in the Silk Road Expo – a show based on performances from and inspired by the East.

As well as bento, henna, ball jointed dolls and more!
