Animal Welfare

At Nestlé Purina, We are Committed to Helping Pets in our Community.

  • Pets for the People

Nestlé Purina’s Pets for People initiative has been supporting animal welfare organizations since 1984. In 2009, Nestlé Purina provided over $15 million in support to organizations nationally. By supporting our partners in animal welfare, Nestlé Purina helps provide care and adoption for more than 1.5 million pets annually.

  • One Hope Network

The One Hope Network is Purina ONE’s sustainable commitment to the cause of animal welfare. It achieves its mission of finding forever homes for pets in need by providing high-quality nutrition to help homeless pets look and feel their best so they have a better chance of getting adopted.

Nestlé Purina is the premier sponsor of AdoptaPet.com, North America's largest non-profit website dedicated to placing homeless pets in permanent homes. AdoptaPet.com helps 10,000 (and growing!) animal welfare organizations across North America find homes for homeless animals. To search for your new “best friend”, visit www.adoptapet.com.

  • Delta Society

Nestlé Purina is the premier sponsor of Delta Society®, the leading international advocate for the unique healing benefits of positive connections between people and pets. Since 1977, Delta Society has championed the vital role animals play in human health through education for health and human service providers, training and support for volunteer therapy animal teams, and promotion of research on the human-animal bond. Purina is joined with Delta Society® to help interested Nestlé Purina employees to become a Delta Society® Pet Partner.

The Delta Society Pet Partners® Program enables people to volunteer with their pets by making visits to hospitals, senior care facilities, schools, libraries and other settings, bringing comfort and healing to people in need in their communities. Currently there are 20 Nestlé Purina St. Louis Pet Partner Teams.

  • Purina Pro Plan Rally To Rescue

The Rally to Rescue® program is a national partnership with Purina® Pro Plan® brand pet food and 500 Rescue Ambassadors from coast-to-coast, dedicated to raising awareness and support for the cause of pet rescue. When a rescued dog or cat needs help, it's often a small rescue group who is there by their side. But these small groups are often unheard, and unseen. Pro Plan® Rally to Rescue® is committed to helping these groups get the funding, awareness and support they need. Since the program’s inception in 2005, the Rally to Rescue® network of Ambassadors has found forever homes for over 400,000 dogs and cats.  Join the movement and help support animal rescue at www.facebook.com/rallytorescue.

  • Purina Pets For Seniors

Studies have shown that pet companionship actually improves senior citizen health and outlook on life. Nestlé Purina partners with more than 160 shelters nationwide to provide senior citizens with free pet adoptions. Participating animal welfare organizations are reimbursed for the adoption fee of the pet for qualifying senior adoptions. For more information, go to
    www.purinapetsforseniors.com

  • Emergency Response & Relief

In the aftermath of natural disasters such as major hurricanes and floods, Nestlé Purina® Pets for People donates Purina® Brand dog and cat food and litter to various animal welfare organizations in need . Whenever possible, we will continue to provide this assistance. A "disaster form" is available on line for organizations that are registered with Nestlé Purina® Pets for People. For more information go to www.petsforpeople.com

  • Saint Louis Petlover Coalition

The St. Louis PetLover Coalition was formed in the spring of 2009 when public and private, large and small, city and county animal service providers came together to discuss improving the lives of dogs and cats in our community. Nestlé Purina convened the original group to share ideas, to begin work to achieve goals that no one group can achieve alone, and to develop a community-wide comprehensive animal welfare plan.  The 5 year regional plan from 2009-2014 includes goals of increasing adoption by 20% and reducing euthanasia by 50%. There are also goals for education and collaboration on facility needs. The big push is for the No Unwanted Litters campaign, to promote more funding and availability of low cost spay/neuter programs for financially challenged pet families, to reduce intake into our already crowded public and private shelters and rescue groups.  "The St. Louis PetLover Coalition fosters collaborative efforts of local animal welfare groups and the community to promote responsible pet ownership and to increase the save rate of companion animals in our community."
