What diseases are commonly transmitted by ticks?

Listen

Chances are, if you have a dog, you’ve heard of lyme disease. But ticks can carry and transmit several other diseases, too, including ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, and rocky mountain spotted fever. So regardless of where you live, you must be on the alert for ticks!

Susan Little, a Professor of Parisitology at Oklahoma State University says, “the pressure on dogs to receive tick bites, to become infested with ticks is greater than its ever been before.”

To protect your pet, she recommends using a tick control product year round, keeping pets out of underbrush and other tick-havens, and routinely checking for ticks. You may also want to ask your veterinarian about the vaccine for lyme disease.
