If you want to search for a new pet online, you have many, many options, depending on what you’re looking for. There are rescue groups for almost any breed of dog or cat; there are shelters in almost every town; and there are cyber shelters such as petfinder.com.

Don’t fall in love with a dog or cat by looking at a photo. Learn as much as you can about the specific animal, including its temperament and background. Consider the breed’s size, general behavior, and any other characteristics that are important to you. Any pet you bring into your home should match well with your family and your lifestyle.
