How Can I Get My Dog to Stop Licking Me?

Listen

Although puppies seem to put everything in their mouths, adult dogs vary. Some turn up their noses at the thought of a lick, but others are very oral.

If your dog licks you a lot, she’s probably seeking your attention; just like a dog that jumps on people. You may think this licking is lovable, but other people might view it as unacceptable. So if you want to lick a licking problem, don’t reward it with attention. Instead, get up and walk away when your dog licks you. Be very strict and conscientious about ignoring the bad behavior. Then, reward your dog when she behaves well. Before long, she’ll learn that gets her affection and what doesn’t.
