If I become a Veterinary Technician, what career opportunities might be available to me?

Listen

If you’ve ever thought of becoming a Veterinary Technician, now is the time to join the ranks. Rebecca Rose, a Certified Veterinary Technician in Colorado, says the field is projected to grow forty-four percent over the next eight years. Typically, it takes two years to complete the required training. You will need good people skills, as you’ll work directly with veterinarians and also talk to clients. You should also enjoy hands-on patient care.

Rose says, “and that’s what typically drives people to become a veterinary technician.”

Most of these specialists work in clinics or animal hospitals, but Rose says there are many other work options -- from research and development to teaching to owning your own business.

– Dr. Andrea Looney, DVM for the “Purina® Animal Instincts” Podcast Series
