Some dog breeds, such as the Labrador Retriever or German Shepherd Dog, are more prevalent than others. Breeds with the smallest numbers of registered dogs, such as the Chinook or Norwegian Lundehund, are considered rare dog breeds. These rarest dog breeds have not reached a high demand with dog owners and their populations have never been big. However, rare is a relative term as some breeds may be unusual in one region of the world but common in others.
