We look for the most efficient way to bring you the products your pets depend on.
Purina is taking steps to optimize the environmental impact of transportation. For example, more than 80 percent of Purina’s domestic products by spend are shipped by contract trucking and rail companies that are members of the EPA’s SmartWay® energy efficient transportation program.
Since 2004, SmartWay partners, including those who transport Purina’s products, have saved 121 million barrels of oil. This is equivalent to taking more than 10 million cars off the road annually. Learn more.
When packing trucks, slip sheets – thin, pallet-sized sheets of plastic or other material — are used where possible in place of wooden pallets. This reduces the weight of loads, allowing more product weight per truckload and reducing the number of trucks on the road. Use of slip sheets eliminates the need for one in 17 trucks as well as the need to transport pallets back and forth. In addition, the slip sheets can be recycled.
We're proud to introduce a partnership with UPS® that paves the way for carbon neutral shipping for all Purina for Professionals™ and veterinary clinic orders delivered by UPS.
UPS® provides shipping services, then purchases and retires carbon offsets from carbon sequestration or carbon mitigation projects on our behalf, effectively creating a carbon neutral shipping supply chain. UPS's Carbon Emissions Calculator and methodology are verified by SGS Environmental Services Inc., the world's leading carbon verification and certification company, and also certified by the CarbonNeutral Company.
We're happy to work with like-minded companies, like UPS, toward shared goals for environmental impact. Learn more about their carbon offset program here.
