While nutrition is paramount, flavor, texture and aroma are all important factors in pet food. Whether you feed wet or dry food to your cat is largely a personal preference.
For many cat owners, lifestyle plays a determining factor in the type of food they feed their cat. Dry food can be safely left out for your pet while you are away from home. Wet food requires more supervision to be fed in a healthy, sanitary manner. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that wet food not be left out for more than four hours in order to avoid food safety concerns. In general, if your cat hasn’t eaten within an hour, pick the food up.
Dry kibble can be left out all day long for your cat to nibble on, as long as she doesn’t have issues like overeating or obesity.
Wet food is higher in water content and can help supplement your cat’s daily water needs. Many cat owners like to feed both wet and dry food and find it helpful to work with their veterinarian to determine a nutritious combination of wet and dry food for their cat.
