Purina® Pro Plan® Dogs Head to Westminster

Posted on: February 05, 2014

Dogs and dog-lovers across the country are gearing up for this year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, where dogs of all sizes and shapes will strut their stuff and remind us just how incredible man’s best friend can be. We’re proud to be sponsoring this year’s show for the third consecutive year.

Agility + Westminster = More Fun than Ever

The Westminster Kennel Club show will reach new levels of awesome thanks to this year’s newly added  Master Agility Championship,  an event where dogs will run a high-speed obstacle course featuring jumps, weave poles, A-frames, tunnels and more. In agility, canine athletes are judged based on their time and ability to navigate the course free of mistakes. For every goof-up, time is added by the judge. Not only will the new agility competition allow dogs to show off their incredible athletic capability, but it will also, for the first time ever, give mixed-breed dogs a chance to compete at Westminster. We love dogs of all sizes, backgrounds and breeds – that’s why we can’t wait to see these amazing athletic dogs get a chance to shine at Westminster.

Conformation, The Main Event

Grace under pressure is the name of the game. In conformation, dogs gait around a show ring before expert judges who choose a winner based on how well a dog exemplifies their breed.  To compete for the title of Best in Show, a dog and handler must first win their breed and group.

The Westminster Kennel Club held its first show in 1877, and since then conformation has become one of the most popular dog sports in America.

Purina Pro Plan Dogs: A History of Winning

As the show kicks off, we’ll be cheering on the many Purina® Pro Plan® -fed dogs that will be in the ring. For years, Purina Pro Plan-fed dogs have been winning the event, with 2013 marking our 7th consecutive year of Pro Plan-fed Best in Show champions. In 2013, all seven group winners, including the Best in Show winner, Banana Joe, were dogs that are fed Purina® Pro Plan®. We are proud to fuel these dogs by providing nutrition that performs.

But what’s behind this phenomenon? Well, statistics. Ninety-three of the top 100 all-breed show dogs in the country are fed Purina Pro Plan. Purina Pro Plan is not just a dog food for dog show competitors. It’s formulated for all kinds of dogs, from puppies to seniors, and gives canine athletes, show dogs, therapy dogs, and more nutrition that performs.

Best of Luck!

We wish all dogs competing good luck this year – and we can’t wait to see what happens.
