Showcasing the Potential of Dogs: Purina’s History with the National Dog Show

Posted on: November 25, 2013

At Purina, we share the belief that when pets and people are together, life is truly better. One reason we support dog shows is because they’re a wonderful example of people and dogs working together to achieve amazing things. That’s why we were excited to partner with NBC and The Kennel Club of Philadelphia 12 years ago to start the National Dog Show, Presented by Purina. Since its inception, the show has become a part of many families' Thanksgiving traditions, and has produced champions that have helped showcase the idea that pets and people can accomplish great things together.

Purina has long-standing relationships with the breeders, owners and handlers that participate in dog shows, and it has always been our goal to nurture those relationships by supporting exhibitors and the events where they can showcase their dogs.

The superior nutrition that Purina Pro Plan provides helps fuel many champion dogs. In fact, 94 of the top 100 all-breed show dogs in the country are fed Purina® Pro Plan®

2012's winner, "Sky," a Wire Fox Terrier, is a Purina Pro Plan-fed dog. She also has earned Best in Show at many other prestigious dog shows, proving that Pro Plan-fed dogs are often the ones to beat. We're proud whenever show dogs act as living proof that our foods deliver nutrition that performs.

The National Dog show has also given Purina a yearly chance to showcase our belief that pets and people are better together. This year, we are proud to feature our Better with Pets program, which includes stories of real people and their amazing pets, including Sami Stoner, a legally blind runner who races with her guide dog, Chloe, and the Becker family, whose two Newfoundland dogs help inspire their breathtaking photography. Both of these stories will be featured as 60-second television spots during the national broadcast of the show.

Surely this year’s National Dog Show Presented by Purina will continue the tradition of inspiring people with the many different types of dogs that help shape our lives and provide further proof that pets and people are better together.
