My cat loves this and all of the other One Smartblend wet food varieties (all right, all the ones that are braised in sauce, but she's never been a fan of pate). I feed her a can of wet food every night to supplement the One beyOnd chicken and whole oat meal dry food that she always has in her bowl, and she is so excited every time she hears me open the lid. Thanks again, Purina!
My cat loves this and all of the other One Smartblend wet food varieties!! Especially when its covered in juicy sauce and this is one can of wet food he can and will put away in minutes
As my cat almost barrels me over when I make my own tuna fish, he now has his own...gravy first then the tuna. and he eats it all which is wonderful and doesn't bother me or the rest of the family for human food. Thank you from all of us.
My Bryn loves this stuff. No trouble at all getting him to eat his Purina One. He is one very happy kitten.
Change is good both for itself and for marketing in a highly competitive product such as cat food. Human customers, at least, like to see something fresh.
Purina One was one of the earliest higher-end cat foods sold in supermarkets. Some years ago, Purina One developed the "smart blend" moniker for some of its products, but it has recently changed this name to "true instinct". For some time, Purina One was difficult to find in my supermarket and I thought the line was being discontinued or phased out. The brand was reinventing itself in face of stiff competition, it appears. It has returned with a vengeance in this new format. Other formulas of Purina One are called ideal weight (chicken) or grain free (a variety of flavors.) My supermarket stocks several varieties again where it competes with the more humble Friskies and Fancy Feast as well as with other brands.
This True Instinct Tuna was a hit with my kitty. She ate the full serving without looking up -- a true test of cat contentment. I have bought the food for her several times and always get a happy, greedy response. I don't recall her enjoying the "Smart Blend" version to this degree, but my understanding is that the formula remains the same. But the cat knows for sure.
The product is not grain free. My cat won't eat grain free foods, and I think their nutritional value is overstated when compared with formulas including grain. This product includes tuna as the number one ingredient after water followed by wheat gluten, liver, meat by-products, and chicken in the first five ingredients. The wheat gluten filler content may be high but the remaining four ingredients are good nutriments. Purina products are often scoffed at by critics of cat food, but I trust the product more than I trust trendier brands and kitty and I have had success with this tuna. She also enjoys the true instinct turkey but not to the same degree as the tuna.
I feed kitty a variety of fish products. She generally gets fish once a week, and I alternate this tuna with the Purina One Salmon and Trout -- also in new packaging and a new formula of Tender Ocean Fish from Hill's Science Diet among other fish products. She loves her weekly fish, including this tuna.
This is a good choice to explore for the fish portion of your cat's diet. It was fun to find this newly-revived Purina One blend and fun to write about it here.
Once the recipe change, the color of this product changed. Before, once can opened, the tuna looked like white meat. Once the recipe changed, the food looked dark.
My cat did not eat once recipe changed, before no problem. After numerous tries in different brands, we found something else she eats.
Purina One True Instinct is a good food
I contacted Purina One on my problem & they stood behind their product
True Instinct Tuna Recipe in Sauce replaced Smart blend tuna flakes in sauce. now my cat won't touch it. I'll have to switch brands if I keep having trouble finding what they will eat
I have been buying this for my cat for a few years. It is/was the only food she liked. The new recipe is awful. We are throwing away more than she tries to eat. Because this is not sold at my local stores, I have had to order online only to have a cat turn up her nose when I open a new can. The other day I found an "old recipe" can and boy did Rosie, the cat, lick the plate dry in record time.
