Dr. Kurt’s Role at Purina
As Purina’s chief veterinary officer with over two decades at the company, Dr. Kurt helps guide Purina’s scientific, veterinary and nutritional efforts to support longer, healthier lives for pets and stronger connections with the people who love them. A respected voice in veterinary medicine and pet nutrition, he speaks nationwide on topics including nutrition, rehabilitation, professional development and the human-animal bond.
Dr. Kurt also directs the Purina Advisory Council and has spent more than 20 years supporting veterinary education through Purina’s Institutional Development Program across U.S. veterinary schools.

Notable Achievements
- Received the Dorothy Sullivan Prize for contributions to the College of Veterinary Medicine community
- Has been featured in leading national outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Washington Post, Businessweek and NPR
- Led research that explored how nutrition, sports medicine and rehabilitation can improve canine health and mobility and supported efforts to develop practical ways to evaluate movement and quality of life in senior dogs
