Lancashire Heeler

The 148th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show presented by Purina Pro Plan will welcome the Lancashire Heeler to the competition for the first time in history. Newly eligible to compete in the Herding Group, the Lancashire Heeler will make their WKC debut in 2024. Learn all about this hard-working, intelligent, and affectionate breed.

About the Lancashire Heeler

The Lancashire Heeler is an intelligent, friendly, and versatile addition to the Herding Group. This charming and hardworking little dog has a short, water-resistant coat of black and tan or liver and tan and carries a bright and alert expression. Often mistaken for other short and spunky breeds like Corgis or Manchester Terriers, the Lancashire Heeler grows to heights of 10-12inches while weighing between 9 and 17 pounds.

Originally hailing from the U.K., the Lancashire Terrier is a powerful little dog that excels at working cattle, but also has keen, terrier-like instincts when rabbiting and ratting. His high energy and small-but-sturdy stature make him an excellent competitor in dog sports like agility, obedience, herding and rally. And while he’s eager to work, this loyal and loving breed also enjoys family life with his people.
