Multiple dogs in a household can be challenging, which is why it is important to choose breeds with compatible temperaments. If you already have other pets, bringing an additional dog into the household can be disruptive and may cause stress. If you’re planning a multi-pet household, choose a sociable breed that gets along well with other dogs and pets to help keep chaos to a minimum.
Try to pick breeds that complement each other. Consider pairing an older dog with a puppy, or a high-energy dog with a low-energy dog. Dogs of the opposite sex tend to pair well, whereas there could be a power struggle with dogs of the same sex.
