Cats and Seizures

More and more stories are cropping up about cats that can tell when their owners are about to have seizures and will do their best to warn them. Take the story of 19-year-old Nathan, whose cat Lilly can always tell when he’s about to have a seizure, often warning his parents beforehand. During a particularly bad seizure, Nathan stopped breathing, and his cat licked his mouth until his breath came back.

While scientists suspect this ability has something to do with detecting biochemical scents, how it works remains a mystery.
